Claire's MusicWorkBook - Music theory and exercises.
“Claire’s Workbook” has evolved over 15 year’s teaching experience with students from 4 to 72 years of age, and originally started as single-sheet handouts developed on computer as single handouts during class. Over the years, these were improved and developed, and then eventually bound together to help students organize their work. Thus the “workbook” concept was invented, where real students in a class environment inspired the handouts where active feedback and suggestions abounded and continual improvements made based upon helping different students with widely differing abilities, backgrounds, ages and experience. Thus the workbook was not developed in isolation but as an active set of solutions to the challenge of explaining the various aspects that constitute the theory of music.

This collection now addresses most of the typical theory requirements of the major examining boards of music, covering from introductory to the next successive stages (Grades 1 to 2/3 depending on the examining board): it must be emphasized however that the workbook endeavours to introduce theory concepts gradually and in stages and to help a novice to read and understand notation and theory rather than merely satisfying a particular board’s requirements exclusively. While teacher guidance is always advisable to obtain the best from the workbook, it has also been designed such that the more ambitious student can progress with the minimum of supervision, whether in a formal class, school or privately, or working at home under his or her own rate.

The teaching pages are liberally interspersed with exercise pages to reinforce the concepts introduced. More difficult concepts such as time-signatures and tones/semitones are dealt with diagrammatically. The book has a glossary of Italian terms at the back -use them as a reference or for exams!- along with daily practise pieces. A few easy-play carols have been included in the appendix.

The "All-in-One" solution for beginners.

Claire's Workbook - an easy piano and keyboard course for young and old.
Claire's Workbook has evolved over 15 year's teaching experience with students from 4 to 72 years of age, and originally started as single-sheet handouts which were developed on computer for class. Over the years these were improved and bound together to help students organise their work. So this book is based on real young students in a real environment writted by a young teacher in her 20's.
FOR THE TEACHER OR SERIOUS STUDENT:
This collection now addresses most of the typical theory requirements of the major examining boards of music covering from introductory to the next successive stages, Grades 2/3 depending on the examining board. It introduces theory concepts - the ability to READ and WRITE music - gradually and the understanding of notation rather than merely satisfying a particular examining board's requirements exclusively.
It has also been designed so that the more ambitious student can progress with the minimum of supervision whether in a formal class, school or privately, or working at home under his or her own rate.
The new edition also has blank manuscript paper for exercises and writing your own musical ideas.

More about learning to read music the DIY way!
These teaching pages are liberally sprinkled with exercise pages to reinforce the concepts introduced, that is, all the mysterious blobs and squiggly bits used in music are explained --- with plenty of exercises so you can self-test these yourself WITHOUT a teacher- not to say they are of no use as Claire learnt from being a teacher, but her experience teaches one to help teach oneself ( to coin a phrase!!!).
Also written by Claire is an easy-play carolbook for keyboard and piano. This is written in two easy keys, C and G major. All the arrangements are "one plus two" harmony, with consistent arrangements - if you can play one, you can play them all!
